4.3 – Preparing Talking Points Before Meetings: Preparation transforms anxiety into confidence when advocating for yourself in meetings. Start by defining your goal—what do you want to achieve or clarify? Write down three to five talking points that support your main message. Include examples, data, or outcomes that reinforce your position. Anticipate questions or objections and practice responses out loud. Keep your points short, focused, and logical so your message stays clear. Bring notes to stay on track if the conversation drifts. Preparation shows you respect others’ time and strengthens your credibility. You’re not memorizing a script—you’re organizing your thoughts. When your message is structured, your delivery sounds confident, even under pressure. Talking points help you guide discussions toward solutions, not confusion, proving that advocacy is rooted in preparation, not impulse.
