Lesson Overview

5.9 – Where to Report Workplace Violations: If you experience unsafe, unfair, or discriminatory practices, knowing where to report them makes all the difference. Start internally with your supervisor or HR department, following company policy. If your concern is ignored or involves leadership, report to external agencies such as OSHA for safety issues or the EEOC for discrimination. Each agency offers confidential complaint systems, and retaliation for reporting is illegal. Keep copies of all submissions and note response dates. You can also contact state labor departments or legal aid centers for guidance. Reporting is not about revenge—it’s about accountability. When violations are exposed, workplaces improve for everyone. Using the proper channels turns personal frustration into institutional change that benefits the broader community.
