Lesson Overview

2.1 – What Is a Diagnosis: A diagnosis is a way for doctors and therapists to describe what’s happening with your mental health. It gives a name to a pattern of thoughts, feelings, or behaviors so the right kind of help can begin. A diagnosis is not a label for who you are—it’s a tool for understanding what you’re facing. It helps professionals choose the best treatments, medications, or supports. Getting one can bring relief because it turns confusion into clarity. It also opens doors to services, school supports, or insurance coverage. Sometimes diagnoses change as more is learned, and that’s okay. You can always ask questions about what yours means. A diagnosis helps you and your team work together. It’s the starting point, not the finish line, of your recovery story.
