Lesson Overview

6.1 – The Right to Privacy and HIPAA: Everyone has the right to keep their health information private. HIPAA, a national law, protects your records and limits who can see them. This means doctors, therapists, and hospitals cannot share your information without your consent, except in emergencies. You can ask to see your records or request corrections anytime. Providers must store your data securely and explain how it’s used. When you sign a release form, you control what’s shared and with whom. Understanding HIPAA gives you confidence to speak openly in care. Privacy builds trust, and trust helps healing. Your story is yours to share on your terms.
