Lesson Overview

2.4 – Trauma and PTSD in Plain Language: Trauma happens when something frightening or overwhelming shocks your mind and body. It can be an accident, abuse, loss, or even witnessing danger. After trauma, the brain can stay stuck in “survival mode,” causing nightmares, flashbacks, or feeling jumpy. PTSD—Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder—means those symptoms last and affect daily life. It’s not about weakness; it’s your brain trying to protect you. Healing starts when safety and trust return. Talking with trained therapists, using grounding tools, and staying connected all help. Movement, deep breathing, and mindfulness calm the body’s alarm. Recovery takes patience, but people heal and grow stronger than before. Naming trauma gives you power over it instead of it controlling you.
