Lesson Overview

5.9 – Emergency vs. Routine Care: Not every mental health concern is an emergency, but some need immediate attention. Routine care means therapy sessions, follow-ups, or medication checks. Emergencies include suicidal thoughts, hallucinations, or feeling unsafe. In emergencies, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can also call 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, anytime. Routine care keeps you stable, while emergency care keeps you safe. Both are important parts of recovery. Knowing which to use saves lives and builds confidence in managing your care. Safety is always the top priority.
