Lesson Overview

6.3 – Right to Refuse or Stop Treatment: You always have the right to say no to treatment, even after starting it. This includes medications, therapy, or hospital stays. Your provider must respect your decision and explain what may happen next. Refusing treatment doesn’t mean you’re giving up—it means you’re exercising control over your care. You can also ask for second opinions or alternative plans. The only exceptions are when your safety or others’ safety is at risk. Knowing this right helps you feel respected, not trapped. Health care should always be a partnership, not an order.
