12.7 – How to Ask to Shadow or Intern in a Professional Role: Shadowing lets you observe a job before doing it. Find someone in a career you admire, like a teacher, nurse, or technician. Ask politely if you can watch them work for a few hours or days. Explain that you want to learn more about the field and respect their time. Dress neatly and take notes quietly while you observe. Notice how they talk, plan, and solve problems. Afterward, thank them sincerely and ask for advice. Shadowing helps you see what the job is really like beyond the surface. You may discover new interests or decide it’s not for you — both are valuable. Each shadowing experience expands your understanding and confidence about future work.
