🛡️ Teen Suicide Series
Course overview
Lesson Overview

1.15 – Substance Abuse and Suicide Risk: Drugs and alcohol often appear as quick escapes from emotional pain, but they can make suicidal thoughts stronger. They blur judgment, increase impulsivity, and deepen sadness. What starts as a way to “feel better” can turn into a dangerous cycle of addiction and despair. Substances trick the brain into temporary relief while making long-term healing harder. When the high fades, the pain feels heavier than before. Many people with substance struggles also carry untreated trauma or depression. Addressing both together—addiction and emotional pain—is key to recovery. Support, treatment, and connection can break this cycle. No one is beyond saving. Every step toward sobriety is a step toward clarity and life. Healing starts the moment someone decides their pain deserves care, not escape.
