🛡️ Teen Suicide Series
Course overview
Lesson Overview

1.5 – Why People Hide Their Pain: People often hide their pain because they fear being judged, misunderstood, or rejected. They may wear smiles that don’t match how they feel inside. It’s easier to pretend everything’s fine than to risk being called “weak” or “dramatic.” Some were raised to believe emotions should be hidden, so they bury them deep where no one can see. But silence builds pressure, and that hidden pain starts to leak out in other ways—through anger, withdrawal, or risky choices. When someone hides their pain, they’re really protecting themselves from more hurt. Recognizing this helps us respond with care instead of criticism. When others make it safe to talk, those walls begin to crack, and healing can begin. Everyone deserves to have their pain seen without shame. True strength comes from honesty, not hiding.
