Course overview
Lesson Overview

4.2 – How the Body Reacts to Triggers: When triggered, the body reacts as if danger is happening now. Heart rate speeds up, breathing shortens, and muscles tighten automatically. These reactions are part of the survival system meant to protect us. The body releases stress hormones like adrenaline, preparing for fight, flight, or freeze. Even when no real threat exists, these signals feel intense and real. Recognizing these changes helps people know when to ground themselves. Gentle breathing and posture shifts can calm the body’s alarm. Understanding that these reactions are automatic reduces self-blame. Awareness turns body reactions into opportunities for recovery instead of panic.
