Lesson Overview

4.6 – Understanding Emotional Flashbacks: Emotional flashbacks happen when intense feelings from the past rise suddenly in the present. Unlike visual flashbacks, they don’t show pictures but recreate the same emotions. Fear, shame, or helplessness may appear without clear reason. These experiences can feel confusing because the cause seems invisible. Recognizing emotional flashbacks helps separate past memories from current safety. The body’s alarm system activates, but grounding can bring you back. Over time, labeling these moments reduces fear of them. Awareness changes flashbacks from mysterious events into recognizable signals. Understanding them builds strength and trust in emotional recovery.
