Lesson Overview

11.10 Managing Contamination and Safety Fears: Contamination fears trick your brain into believing that everyday objects or environments are dangerous, leading to excessive cleaning, avoiding touch, or strict rituals to feel clean or safe. You learn that anxiety exaggerates risk far beyond reality. Instead of cleaning until the fear disappears, you practice touching something “unsafe” and allowing discomfort to exist without a ritual response. You remind yourself that your immune system protects you constantly and that routine contact with the world is part of a healthy life. Each time you resist a cleaning ritual, you teach your brain that danger is imagined, not real. Slowly, the world becomes less frightening, and your freedom grows.
