Lesson Overview

11.7 Challenging Perfectionism and Certainty: OCD wants perfection and absolute certainty, demanding that every detail feels “just right” before you can relax. You learn that perfection is not safety—it’s a prison that steals time, energy, and joy. You start letting small mistakes exist on purpose: slightly uneven objects, a message with one typo, a plan that isn’t fully confirmed. At first, anxiety rises sharply, but when nothing bad happens, your brain learns that imperfection is not danger. You replace “I must be certain” with “I can handle uncertainty.” Each imperfect moment becomes a victory against OCD’s unrealistic rules, teaching your brain that life doesn’t have to be flawless to be safe.
