Lesson Overview

16.8 Using Calm Body Practices: Trauma teaches the body to stay tense, ready to react, but calm body practices help release that stored stress and rebuild a sense of physical peace. You explore techniques like gentle stretching, deep breathing, yoga, or slow movement that allow muscles and nerves to relax without pressure. You notice where tension hides—shoulders, jaw, stomach—and offer those areas steady attention and compassion. Calm practices teach your nervous system that stillness can be safe again, and your body learns that it doesn’t need to react to every sensation as a threat. These moments become opportunities to reconnect with yourself physically, sometimes for the first time in a long time, helping you feel grounded, present, and in control. The more you care for your body, the more your body supports your healing mind.
