17.12 Building Social Support: Building social support helps lift the weight depression places on your shoulders by reminding you that connection is a fundamental part of healing. You reach out to trusted friends, family, or support groups where you feel safe being honest about how you’re feeling. You learn that vulnerability is not burdening others — it is allowing love and care to reach you. You accept that you don’t need to have everything figured out to deserve company. Even quiet time with someone supportive can bring comfort when words are hard to find. You recognize that relationships don’t always cure depression, but they give you strength and hope on the days when motivation and energy are low. Support becomes a reminder that you are not invisible, not alone, and not beyond help.
