Lesson Overview

24.1 Understanding Somatic Symptoms: Understanding somatic symptoms means recognizing that physical sensations can be influenced by stress and worry, even when no medical illness is present. You learn that the mind and body communicate constantly, so anxiety may show up as headaches, chest tightness, stomach discomfort, dizziness, or fatigue. Instead of assuming these sensations mean danger, you explore whether emotions are contributing to the discomfort. This awareness frees you from fear-driven reactions and allows you to care for both mental and physical needs. You remind yourself that symptoms are real, but the cause may not be what anxiety wants you to believe.
