Lesson Overview

11.6 Building Awareness Before Compulsion: The moment between fear and compulsion is the place where your power exists. You learn to notice early signs—tight stomach, “what if” thoughts, a sudden urge to check—that mean your brain is about to push you into ritual mode. Instead of reacting automatically, you pause and name what’s happening: “This is OCD trying to get me to do something.” You give yourself a few seconds of choice, long enough for logic to join the conversation. Even when you still do the compulsion afterward, the pause teaches your brain that you are aware and learning. Over time, those small pauses grow into longer moments of control, and eventually into successful resistance where you respond differently.
