Lesson Overview

23.8 Managing Nightmares and Vivid Dreams: Managing nightmares and vivid dreams means understanding that your brain processes emotions, fears, and memories while you sleep, sometimes producing distressing images that feel real. You learn grounding techniques to calm yourself when you wake, like noticing your surroundings, breathing slowly, or speaking affirmations of safety. You journal recurring dreams to notice themes and release the fear attached to them. You also develop calming routines before bed to reduce emotional overload. By approaching nightmares with curiosity instead of terror, you rewrite the narrative that nighttime must be frightening. With time, dreams become less overwhelming as your brain learns you are safe even in sleep.
