12.10 – What to Do When You Can’t Fall Asleep: Everyone experiences sleepless nights sometimes, but fighting them only deepens frustration. When your mind races, shift from trying to sleep to creating calm. Focus on slow breathing, stretching lightly, or reading something soothing instead of scrolling. If your body resists rest, get up briefly—move to a dimly lit area, sip water, or jot down thoughts circling in your head. Returning to bed once you feel drowsy often works better than forcing yourself to lie still in frustration. Avoid clock-watching; it fuels anxiety about lost sleep. Reframe sleepless moments as opportunities for relaxation practice. Over time, your body learns that the bed is a space for rest, not worry. This shift reduces nighttime stress and improves long-term sleep quality. The key is patience and self-compassion—trusting that rest will come naturally when your mind feels safe enough to release control and surrender to stillness.
