5.9 – What Not to Do With Household Appliances: Many accidents come from using appliances the wrong way—doing things that seem small but create big problems. Never yank cords from outlets or run them under rugs, as this wears them down and creates fire risks. Avoid mixing water with electricity, especially near sinks, bathtubs, or outdoor areas. Don’t use broken plugs or cracked casings, even if the appliance still works. Never block vents or overload power strips. Avoid using extension cords for heavy devices like refrigerators or microwaves, which need dedicated outlets. Ignoring warning signs like strange smells or sparks can lead to disaster. It’s better to stop immediately and unplug than to assume it will fix itself. Keeping attention on details like placement, cleanliness, and proper use prevents costly damage. Responsible users act before danger appears, turning awareness into everyday prevention that keeps homes running safely and efficiently.
