Lesson Overview

10.21 – Handling a Knock at the Door or Unexpected Visitor: Every knock deserves a moment of thought before a response. Looking through a peephole or window first confirms identity without confrontation. Ask visitors to identify themselves verbally before unlocking anything. Delivery workers or maintenance staff should have badges or prior notice—never feel pressured to open immediately. If someone seems suspicious, call a neighbor or non-emergency line for guidance. Keep your phone within reach during any unexpected visit. Practicing calm, polite communication protects your boundaries without escalating tension. Avoid sharing personal details like schedules or who lives with you. Safety isn’t about fear of others—it’s about thoughtful interaction that keeps power balanced. Treat every encounter as your choice, not obligation. Over time, these mindful responses teach your body assurance: you can welcome connection while still defending your comfort and control.
