5.7 – Using a Washer and Dryer Without Causing Damage: Laundry appliances simplify chores but can be expensive to repair if treated carelessly. Always sort clothes by color and fabric type before washing to avoid dye transfer or shrinking. Measure detergent according to load size—too much soap creates residue, while too little leaves dirt. Never overload the washer or dryer, as it strains the motor and causes poor results. Clean the lint filter before each drying cycle to prevent fires and improve air flow. Wipe the rubber seals to prevent mold, and keep the door slightly open when not in use to let moisture escape. Check all pockets for items like coins or pens that can damage the drum. Know your settings—delicate, normal, or heavy duty—so your clothes last longer. Treating machines with care extends their life and saves money. Proper laundry use shows organization and accountability, reflecting the kind of responsibility every household needs.
