19.5 – Wiping Counters and Tables Correctly: Wiping counters and tables correctly ensures your kitchen stays hygienic and inviting. Always start by clearing crumbs and removing any clutter before cleaning. Use a damp cloth or disposable wipe with mild soap or surface cleaner, paying attention to corners and edges where crumbs hide. Wipe in a single direction rather than random circles to prevent spreading germs. For sticky or greasy spots, let the cleaner sit for a few seconds before wiping. Change cloths regularly to avoid reusing dirty ones that transfer bacteria. Don’t forget to clean under small appliances, salt shakers, or placemats where buildup forms unnoticed. Clean surfaces not only look better but also make meal prep safer by reducing contamination. Consistent wiping habits after every meal keep your home visually calm and maintain an environment that feels cared for and sanitary.
