3.2 – Sorting Clothes by Color, Fabric, and Function: Sorting clothes before washing is one of the most overlooked but powerful habits in laundry care. It protects your clothes from fading, shrinking, or tearing and helps them last longer. Dark colors bleed onto light ones, so separating them avoids unwanted stains. Different fabrics like cotton, wool, or synthetic materials all need specific care to keep their texture strong. Sorting by function—like work clothes, gym wear, or delicate items—ensures everything gets the right cleaning intensity. For example, workout clothes often need more odor removal than light fabrics. This process may seem time-consuming at first, but it saves money and frustration in the long run. Taking the time to sort teaches patience and attention to detail. It’s also a form of mindfulness—understanding what each item needs before starting the wash. When you sort with care, you protect your investment, respect your wardrobe, and reinforce the idea that your time and appearance matter.
