16.3 – Building Short-Term Memory with Repetition: Repetition is how your brain decides what to keep and what to forget. When you repeat an action, phrase, or task, neural connections strengthen and make recalling that information easier later. This is why repeating directions, names, or phone numbers aloud can help them stick. It’s not about memorizing everything—it’s about teaching your brain which details matter most. Using repetition throughout your day, like reviewing grocery lists or practicing a new skill, builds faster recall. Each small rehearsal sends a signal that the information is important. Over time, short-term memory improves, and you feel less dependent on reminders or notes. Consistency is the secret: brief, frequent repetition works better than long, occasional efforts. The more you practice, the more automatic memory retention becomes, giving you confidence in managing everyday responsibilities independently.
