10.6 – Practicing Bathroom and Shower Safety: Bathroom safety starts with small choices that protect dignity, comfort, and independence. Wet floors, loose rugs, or poor lighting can turn a quick shower into a serious fall risk. Installing grab bars, using non-slip mats, and adjusting water temperature create physical and emotional stability. Keeping items within reach prevents over-stretching or sudden slips. For people with mobility challenges, using a shower chair or handheld sprayer adds confidence without reducing independence. Organizing products in labeled baskets avoids confusion and spills. Electrical devices like hairdryers must stay far from water sources—distance equals protection. Checking ventilation prevents mold and air issues that can harm lungs over time. Practicing these steps daily builds muscle memory for safety and reduces stress. A secure bathroom allows privacy and pride to coexist. True safety doesn’t limit freedom; it expands it by letting you move comfortably in your own space.
