12.42 – Sleep Strategies for People Recovering From Domestic Violence: Survivors of domestic violence often associate nighttime with fear or intrusion, making rest difficult. Safety comes first: ensure locks, alarms, or trusted contacts provide real protection. Create a bedtime ritual focused on empowerment—soft lighting, calming scents, affirmations of self-worth. Weighted blankets or pets offer grounding through gentle pressure and warmth. Limit contact with triggering media or people before bed. Therapy and support groups can further retrain your body to recognize peace. Keep your phone accessible for security but silence notifications to avoid disruption. Reclaiming sleep means reclaiming autonomy; each peaceful night is an act of recovery. Over time, stability replaces vigilance. As comfort grows, sleep deepens naturally. Healing requires both emotional and environmental safety, reminding survivors that rest is not vulnerability—it’s a powerful declaration of survival, self-trust, and the right to peace after prolonged fear.
