10.61 – Practicing Safety During Home Repairs or Utility Visits: Home repairs bring outsiders into your private space, so boundaries and planning are essential. Always verify identification before opening the door—utility workers and contractors should show company badges or call ahead. Keep valuables secured and only allow entry to areas necessary for repair. Stand in visible locations and maintain awareness of exits. Never feel obligated to stay alone during visits; invite a trusted friend or neighbor if possible. Communicate clearly about work details, costs, and timelines before anything begins, and request written confirmations. Limit personal information shared; small talk should never include financial or living details. If something feels wrong, end the appointment immediately and report concerns to supervisors or local authorities. Preparation makes every repair predictable rather than invasive. Document who enters and when to track accountability. Safe home maintenance isn’t about suspicion—it’s controlled access that preserves independence while ensuring every visitor’s role remains professional, transparent, and fully respectful of your boundaries.
