13.79 – Communicating With Law Enforcement or Authority Figures: Interacting with authority requires composure, respect, and clarity. Stay calm, maintain neutral body language, and keep hands visible. Address officers formally with “sir” or “ma’am,” and follow instructions politely. Speak clearly, avoid interruptions, and answer only what’s asked. If you don’t understand, request clarification respectfully. Keep tone factual, not emotional—professionalism ensures safety and credibility. Never argue or raise your voice; calm firmness communicates cooperation and self-control. If reporting an incident, provide exact details without exaggeration. Writing facts afterward preserves accuracy. Confidence mixed with respect prevents escalation and encourages fair treatment. Over time, practicing calm communication during high-stress authority interactions strengthens personal safety and community trust. Assertive composure shows maturity and teaches others that power and peace can coexist when dialogue is handled with integrity and respect.
