19.3 – Loading and Unloading a Dishwasher: Loading and unloading a dishwasher properly keeps your dishes spotless and your appliance working efficiently. Place large items like pots and pans on the bottom rack, facing the spray arms so water reaches every surface. Glasses and smaller items go on the top rack, slightly angled for drainage. Avoid overcrowding, which blocks water flow and leaves residue. Silverware should be mixed—some handles up, some down—to prevent nesting and ensure full cleaning. Always check that nothing obstructs the spinning arms before starting. Once the cycle ends, open the door slightly to let steam escape and speed up drying. Unload from the bottom rack first to avoid dripping onto clean dishes below. Regularly wiping seals and filters prevents buildup that affects performance. Treating your dishwasher as a precision tool, not a catch-all, extends its life and keeps your kitchen hygiene consistent.
