Lesson Overview

12.15 – Safe Sleeping Arrangements in Shelters, Motels, or Couch-Surfing: Sleeping in temporary or shared spaces can be stressful, but safety planning can make rest possible. Choose a spot where you can see exits and keep personal items close. If possible, use earplugs and eye masks for privacy and calm. Let someone you trust know your location each night, even through a quick message. Creating a small routine—like organizing your bag, laying out tomorrow’s clothes, or saying affirmations—brings structure amid uncertainty. Avoid sleeping near strangers who feel unpredictable, and keep essentials like phone and ID within reach. If sharing space, use headphones or calming sounds to create a mental barrier. Remember that rest is a right, not a privilege. Prioritizing safety supports true recovery, giving your mind permission to relax. Each small measure builds confidence and reminds you that stability starts internally, long before you find permanent housing or your own room again.
