19.9 – Cleaning Cooking Tools and Utensils: Cleaning cooking tools and utensils requires focus to maintain safety and longevity. Wash knives separately with the blade facing away from you and dry them immediately to prevent rust. Wooden utensils should be handwashed and oiled occasionally to keep from cracking. Metal and silicone tools can handle hotter water but should still be rinsed promptly after use. Avoid soaking sharp or delicate items too long, which can dull or warp them. Scrub out crevices of spatulas, whisks, and tongs where residue hides. Keep a small brush for cleaning tight spaces or food processors. Once cleaned, store tools upright or in divided drawers to prevent damage. Consistent care ensures your utensils remain reliable and ready. Clean tools reflect not just hygiene but also respect for the craft of cooking and the space that sustains your meals.
