11.13 – How to Dress When You’re Depressed, Dissociated, or Shut Down: Mental fatigue can make dressing feel impossible, but structure creates momentum when motivation disappears. Start with one easy decision—a comfortable shirt or elastic pants—and let small victories count as progress. Keep a “low-energy” outfit set ready for hard days: soft fabrics, loose fits, and minimal effort to put on. These comfort choices still show self-care, reminding your brain that you deserve to function and be seen. Visual simplicity reduces emotional noise when you feel detached. Laying out clothes the night before builds autopilot for mornings when emotions feel heavy. Even washing your face or changing out of sleepwear signals to your nervous system that the day has begun. Consistent minimal effort prevents decline without forcing perfection. Depression dulls color, but gentle daily structure can bring light back gradually through repetition, comfort, and patience toward yourself.
