Lesson Overview

10.27 – Teaching Safety Skills to Your Children or Dependents: Teaching safety begins with modeling calm, confident behavior that children naturally copy. Show them how to check surroundings, lock doors, and recognize trustworthy adults through routine, not fear. Conversations should focus on empowerment—what to do, who to call, and how to act—so they feel prepared, not scared. Use role-play to practice calling 911, identifying exits, or saying “no” firmly when uncomfortable. Keep explanations honest but age-appropriate to build awareness without trauma. Posting safety rules where kids can see them reinforces memory through repetition. Encourage questions so safety becomes communication, not command. Praise their awareness to grow pride in caution. When caregivers stay consistent, children learn that safety is love expressed through structure. These lessons plant lifelong confidence and responsibility, showing that independence starts with understanding how to protect oneself wisely and calmly every single day.
