Lesson Overview

34.1 – Knowing When to Call 911 or Seek Help: Knowing when to call 911 or seek help can be the difference between safety and danger during an emergency. Always call 911 when someone’s life is at immediate risk—such as during a fire, severe injury, chest pain, breathing trouble, or loss of consciousness. If unsure, it’s better to call than to hesitate. Stay calm, speak clearly, and give the dispatcher your location and the details of what happened. If the situation isn’t life-threatening, contact a non-emergency number or urgent care center instead. Learning to judge the level of urgency helps prevent panic and ensures resources are used properly. Quick, informed action saves time and lives. Confidence in recognizing emergencies turns fear into focused, effective response.
