26.8 – Handling Hot Cookware Safely: Handling hot cookware safely prevents burns and accidents during cooking or cleanup. Always use dry oven mitts or thick towels to handle pots and pans. Turn pot handles inward on the stove to prevent accidental bumps or spills. Let items cool briefly before washing to avoid steam burns or cracking glass. Keep children and pets away from hot surfaces. Use trivets or heat-resistant pads before placing cookware on counters or tables. Never leave pans unattended while heating, even for a minute. Check that oven racks and lids are positioned correctly before reaching in. Awareness and patience protect both you and your surroundings. Proper handling builds respect for the tools that make cooking possible, reinforcing care, confidence, and consistent safety in every meal routine.
