2.7 – Safe Food Storage and Preventing Spoilage: Food safety starts with knowing how to store items correctly. Keep your fridge below 40°F and freezer at zero to slow bacterial growth. Raw meats belong on bottom shelves to prevent drips onto ready-to-eat foods. Label containers with dates to track freshness. Use airtight containers or resealable bags to reduce exposure to air and moisture. Leftovers should be eaten within three to four days or frozen for later use. Avoid leaving perishable foods at room temperature for more than two hours. Cleaning your fridge regularly prevents cross-contamination and foul odors. Learning these habits protects your health, saves money, and shows respect for your effort and ingredients. Proper storage turns your kitchen into a safe, efficient system of care.
