10.87 – What to Do When Someone Won’t Leave Your Home: Unwanted guests test both courage and composure. Begin with assertive, direct communication: “I need you to leave now.” Avoid arguing or apologizing; clarity ends confusion. If resistance occurs, step toward exits rather than deeper inside. Keep distance and maintain visual access to doorways. Use calm repetition and avoid physical contact. If safety feels threatened, call for help immediately—friends, neighbors, or law enforcement—and state that an intruder refuses departure. Document times and details afterward. Changing locks or restricting key access afterward prevents recurrence. Hosting boundaries define respect; enforcing them defines authority. Safety means honoring intuition before conflict escalates. Never minimize fear or assume politeness guarantees cooperation. Confidence in removal protects both dignity and wellbeing. Home ownership of space includes the right to decide who remains; protecting that right ensures peace endures long after the door finally closes.
