Lesson Overview

10.68 – Safety for LGBTQ+ Clients Facing Rejection or Threats: Personal identity should never require defense, but hostile environments make safety planning crucial. Document harassment or discrimination to build legal protection. Establish safe contacts at affirming centers or hotlines specialized in LGBTQ+ crisis support. If housing or family settings feel unsafe, create a discreet exit plan with transport and documents ready. Online, use privacy settings to limit exposure and avoid sharing locations publicly. Seek community spaces that celebrate inclusion where you can recharge mentally. Rejection hurts, but connection to affirming people rebuilds dignity faster than fear can destroy it. Develop self-soothing rituals like journaling or grounding music to restore balance after conflict. Visibility is courageous, but safety always comes first. Living authentically means choosing when and where to be open based on security, not pressure. Your identity is valid even when hidden for protection—it remains whole, worthy, and unshakably yours.
