Lesson Overview

26.2 – Proper Handling of Sharp Utensils: Proper handling of sharp utensils keeps you and others safe during meal prep and cleanup. Always hold knives by the handle, pointing the blade down when carrying them. Never leave sharp objects in a sink full of water where they can’t be seen. Wash and dry one knife at a time using the blunt side against the sponge to avoid cuts. Store blades in a designated block or drawer with guards to prevent accidents. Use cutting boards to protect both hands and surfaces. When passing knives, offer the handle, never the blade. Replace dull knives promptly, as they require more force and increase risk. Awareness, control, and focus make kitchen work safer and more efficient, proving that precision—not speed—defines good knife safety habits for daily cooking.
