26.3 – Washing Dishes Without Cross-Contamination: Washing dishes without cross-contamination ensures your kitchen stays clean and healthy. Start by separating items—glasses, utensils, plates, and cookware—into categories. Scrape and rinse off food debris before soaking. Wash in order: glasses first, then utensils, plates, and finally pots or pans, keeping water cleaner longer. Use hot, soapy water and rinse with fresh water before drying. Sanitize cutting boards and tools used for raw meat separately to prevent bacteria from spreading. Replace dishwater if it becomes greasy or cloudy. Dry with a clean towel or air rack, never one already damp from prior use. Clean the sink afterward to remove residue. Consistent sanitation protects your household’s health and reinforces responsible food-handling practices. A methodical approach keeps meal cleanup efficient, hygienic, and stress-free.
