Lesson Overview

39.8 – Recognizing Signs of Spoiled Food: Recognizing signs of spoiled food prevents illness and builds confidence in safe food handling. Spoiled food often shows changes in color, texture, or smell. Mold, sour odors, or unusual stickiness are warning signs. Canned items that bulge, leak, or rust should be discarded immediately. Trust your senses—if something looks or smells off, don’t take risks. Store perishables properly to extend freshness, and follow the “first in, first out” rule when organizing your fridge or pantry. Recognizing spoilage teaches responsibility and respect for safety. Safe food handling keeps your meals healthy, your environment clean, and your confidence in daily living strong.
