Lesson Overview

34.5 – Recognizing Signs of Allergic Reactions: Recognizing signs of allergic reactions can prevent serious complications and save lives. Common reactions include hives, itching, swelling, or digestive discomfort, while severe reactions—called anaphylaxis—can cause throat tightness, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you or someone nearby shows these symptoms, seek immediate medical help or call 911. People with known allergies should carry an epinephrine auto-injector and know how to use it. Learn to identify triggers such as foods, insect stings, or medications and avoid them when possible. Awareness and quick response prevent emergencies from escalating. Staying alert to early symptoms teaches caution, responsibility, and empathy—key traits for maintaining safety and supporting others in critical moments.
