Lesson Overview

18.6 – Practicing Assertive Communication: Practicing assertive communication means standing up for yourself without aggression or fear. It is the middle ground between passivity and dominance, where your voice carries confidence and respect. Assertiveness involves clear language, calm tone, and steady eye contact that signal both self-assurance and openness. You express your thoughts honestly without blaming or belittling others. When disagreement arises, focus on solutions rather than revenge or withdrawal. Assertive people don’t demand—they state expectations directly and allow others to respond. This style of communication earns respect because it balances empathy with firmness. Over time, being assertive strengthens your identity and helps others understand your limits clearly. Practicing it daily turns communication from stressful confrontation into meaningful dialogue grounded in mutual understanding and emotional stability.
