39.3 – Identifying Hidden Sugars and Sodium: Identifying hidden sugars and sodium protects your long-term health by reducing silent risks like heart disease or fatigue. Food labels often disguise sugars under names like sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup, maltose, or dextrose. Similarly, sodium hides in sauces, canned goods, and frozen meals. Compare brands and aim for products with lower numbers in these sections. Limit added sugars to under 25–50 grams daily and sodium below 2,300 milligrams when possible. Over time, your taste adjusts to less sweetness and salt. Awareness transforms how you read every label, empowering you to choose foods that fuel energy instead of draining it. Smart shoppers protect their health with every glance.
