36.7 – Preventing Illness Through Hygiene: Preventing illness through hygiene builds daily protection for yourself and others. Regular handwashing, especially before eating and after public contact, removes germs that cause sickness. Keep nails clean, avoid touching your face frequently, and cover coughs or sneezes with your elbow. Sanitize shared items like phones, remotes, or doorknobs. Personal hygiene—clean clothes, showers, and oral care—also keeps bacteria in check. Balanced nutrition, hydration, and adequate sleep strengthen immunity. Prevention is easier and safer than treatment. Good hygiene shows respect for your health and those around you. Practicing these habits consistently reduces sick days, improves focus, and reinforces independence by turning care into a reliable routine.
