Lesson Overview

2.4 – Reading Food Labels and Expiration Dates: Understanding labels empowers you to make informed choices that protect your health. Ingredients are listed by weight, so the first items reveal what you’re mostly eating. Learn to recognize added sugars and sodium, which hide under many names. Serving sizes guide how much nutrition you’re really getting—not the entire package. Expiration dates matter for safety and freshness; “use by” and “best before” mean different things. Reading labels helps you compare products fairly instead of relying on packaging claims. Check allergy warnings if you or someone you cook for has sensitivities. Over time, this habit strengthens awareness and teaches balance, not restriction. You begin to see food as information your body understands. Each label you read builds confidence in caring for your health proactively.
