Lesson Overview

38.5 – Storing Food Safely in the Refrigerator: Storing food safely in the refrigerator prevents spoilage and keeps meals fresh longer. Keep the temperature at or below 40°F (4°C) and avoid overcrowding shelves so air circulates properly. Store raw meats on lower shelves to prevent drips from contaminating other foods. Use airtight containers to preserve flavor and stop odors from spreading. Label items and organize them by type—dairy together, leftovers together, produce in drawers. Check expiration dates weekly and discard anything questionable. Maintaining a clean, organized fridge supports both safety and efficiency. Proper food storage is an essential skill for independent living, protecting your health and your budget simultaneously.
