2.12 – Managing Food Anxiety and Disordered Eating Patterns: Food anxiety often grows from fear, control, or negative body image. Building structure through planned meals helps reduce uncertainty and emotional stress. Focus on nourishment rather than numbers or perfection. Keep regular eating times to prevent extreme hunger or guilt. Avoid labeling foods as moral choices—no food makes you “good” or “bad.” If eating feels overwhelming, start with small, consistent steps like one balanced plate a day. Engage trusted support, whether friends, counselors, or nutritionists. Mindful breathing before meals can ground your body and calm intrusive thoughts. Over time, self-compassion replaces shame, and food becomes a source of care rather than conflict. Healing begins with understanding that nourishment is not punishment.
